Welcome to the CREATE Discovery Program!
CREATE is a project of the Minnesota Technology Network, designed to provide practical, real-world training in Visual Communications, Metacognition, AI, and the latest in Computation, Robotics, Engineering, Arts, Technology, and Energy.
People of all ages gain skills in using simple pictures and animations to convey complex physics and engineering topics, all while understanding how our human brains and computers interact and communicate.
Through multi-modal inputs and outputs including our CREATE Discovery Cards, #MicroSims (animated simulations), and audio and video assets, participants learn more about the world around them and how to share that knowledge and insight with others.
CREATE Discovery cards guide users with prompts illustrating a specific CREATE topic to generate AI driven code ChatGPT to visualize that topic in the P5 Javascript processing library graduating to more advanced visualization libraries over time. These visualizations are called #MicroSims.
Beginning students paste code into the online editor and see their visualization come to life, modify it by changing parameters, and ask the AI to help fix any error codes or make changes to the code structure, like adding inline controls, etc.
In minutes, we can take someone who has never coded and get them debugging and developing their first lines of working valid code.
Advanced students then use code, video, audio, and these #MicroSims to create multi-modal learning objects for sharing physics and engineering knowledge with others.
This innovative and proven approach is designed to increase topical awareness and empower future innovators with the skills they need to tackle the most pressing challenges of our time.
Here are some examples of #MicroSims that have been created.
There are currently two offerings available through this program:
CREATE Discovery cards guide students to a deeper understanding of, generative artificial intelligence, computer science, physics, engineering, and data visualization.
By attending the exploration events we host throughout the state of MN, and/or simply purchasing the set of cards that interests them most, students gain the ability to compete in special challenges and competitions against other students throughout the state, all while increasing their understanding and exposure to CREATE topics and gaining computational thinking skills.
Our unique internship program offers an opportunity for college and university students to gain hands-on experience in the latest technologies and industry practices. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are interested in learning and contributing to our curated content for younger Minnesota students.
Interns will work on projects such as creating educational videos, developing interactive websites and games, and producing educational materials. They will also have the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and mentors, join a community of like-minded students and educators, and prepare for future careers in technology, arts, and innovation.
Our program offers:
We welcome applicants from a variety of colleges and universities. No previous experience is necessary, but a passion for technology and arts education is a must. Applicants should be able to commit to the program for its entirety.
