Watch MTN Access to Art Episode NineJuly 2007
Hosted by local artist Tom Cassidy at a mural painting project with Juxtaposition Arts and Kulture Klub Collaborative.

Segment One: Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council is a rotating group of 12 high school students from around the twin cities who meet weekly at the museum and plan events for teenagers. WACTC, which has been in existence for 10 years gives teen the opportunity to meet local and nationally acclaimed artists, learn about the art community and work as a team to plan events. Access to Art Correspondent Carrie Volk attended a recent event, "March of Madness: Bands on the Run," and also sat in on one of WACTAC's regular meetings.

Segment Two: The Nia-Imani Youth and Family Development Center, a program of Kwanzaa Community Church, uses music and video production to engage youth with their community. They are currently working on a documentary called Street Life about what "street" means around the world. Access to Art Correspondent Megan Cullen visited with some of the youth and their mentor and observed their work.

Segment Three: the Lit Kids Publication Group was started in 2005 by a group of students in the literary arts program at the Perpich Center for Arts Education Arts High School. In the spring of 2007 they produced an anthology of their work, directing the entire process from fundraising, to editorial decision-making to working with the publisher. Access to Art Correspondent Beth Peloff talked with the editing team and attended a promotional reading at the Golden Valley Library.

Segment Four: Shooting Stars is a camera club for youth that meets at the Pierre Bottineau Library in Northeast Minneapolis. It is a project of the Sheridan Neighborhood Organization and was funded by a Bridging Communities grant from the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs at the University of Minnesota, as well as the neighborhood's own NRP program.
