Watch MTN Access to Art Episode Five - January 2007

Segment One: Day of the Dead Celebration takes a look at an event at the Instituto de Cultura y Educacion that was sponsored by the Mercado Central. The performance captured here by correspondent Carrie Volk features the Kalpulli KetzalCoatlicue Dancers as part of an all-night vigil honoring the dead.

Segment Two: As a part of the 7th Annual Northeast Clay Tour, nine galleries and studios in Northeast Minneapolis opened their doors to the public one weekend in October. This piece by correspondent John Akre introduces you to the world of the clay artist and profiles three of the participating studios: Clay Squared to Infinity, 212 Pottery, and Ernest Miller.

Segment Three: The Minnesota Center for Book Arts, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the art of bookmaking, holds a yearly fundraising party called Waysgoose. Traditionally, Waysgoose marked the traditional end of summer and the point at which the season of working by candelight began. Correspondent Carrie Volk captured the festivities at this modern version.

Segment Four: The Writers of Color Reading Series, sponsored by SASE: the Write Place and curated by poet Sherry Quan Lee happens the second Thursday of each month at Patrick's Cabaret. Correspondent Carrie Volk put together this piece about November's reading which featured writers Carolyn Holbrook and Sharon Suzuki-Martinez. Also, Tom Cassidy visits with storyteller Paula Reed Nancarrow at the Northstar Storytelling League's "Stuffed with Stories" storytelling festival.
