Watch MTN Access to Art Episode Sixteen—October/November 2008 Hosted by local artist Tom Cassidy at Intermedia Arts for the opening reception of the Unconvention. Opening: Access to Art host Tom Cassidy talks with Intermedia Arts' Program Manager Marlina Gonzalez about the Unconvention. Segment One: She Rock, "The Festival of Sisters" is a brand new music festival devoted to showcasing the music of female performers who are currently working in the Twin Cities music scene. Having arisen from festival co-founder Debra G's realization that she didn't know very many local female musicians, the festival brought together performers from all over the Twin Cities to play at local venue Pi Bar during an weekend in September. Access to Art Correspondent Laura Stopyro went to the two-night festival, enjoyed some music and talked to the people involved. Also--at the Unconvention, Access to Art Host Tom Cassidy talks with video artist John O'Brien. Segment Two: Zinefest is an annual festival of do-it-yourself art and literature sponsored by the Stevens Square Center for the Arts. Since 2004, Zinefest has showcased the finest self-made talent in the Midwest. The festival includes craft presentations, readings and an art show. Access to Art Correspondent Laura Stopyro attended this year's Zinefest and talked to organizers and participants. Segment Three: Every year since 1993 the Minnesota Fringe Festival has overloaded the senses of many a theater-goer with live performances by artists from the Twin Cities and many other parts of the world. This year, Access to Art correspondent Ashley Siebels attended a handful of shows and talked with the artists who put them together.
