I wanted to keep everyone up to date on some of the staff changes that have happened with the Internet department. First, we have a new System Administrator, Tom Shannon. Tom (max@mtn.org), has been with us for several weeks now. He has a large computer based background, in system administration, technical support, and hardware. I am very pleased to have him working with us.

This staff changed occured, when our long time friend Mark Lutgen, formerly the Systems Administrator for MTN, left us. Mark has worked with MTN's Internet Dep't. for nearly three years. We will forever be indebted to his service. Mark is pursuing a new challenge working with the "!nteract" Services department with US West. We wish him the best of luck. Mark will be assisting the Internet Department as needed. In fact, he has already been a great support. I really want to thank him, and all the other volunteers that assist the Internet Department. They have, over the years, saved us on many occasions.

I (Derrik Dyka) have assumed a new position of Director of Internet Operations / System Administrator. Aside from the system administration essentials, my focus will be on you, the user. I will strive to bring the best support available to our users. In addition, we are seeking new accounts to raise money to improve equipment, yet keep our prices as low as possible.

Our services have greatly improved recently. We now have nearly double our modem capacity with 56K modems running off three T1 lines. This service is comparable with any commercial dial up service in the Twin Cities, at half the price.

This above has effected some users' dial up script. If you are using a Mac with Config PPP, you can learn about the new script at . If you are using a Mac with FreePPP, you can disable the script and connect directly. For Windows 95 & 98, you can entirely remove the Dial-Up Scripting Tool, or remove it from the properties of your MTN connection. Also, we have implemented the frequently requested Front Page Extensions for users wanting to use the WYSIWYG-HTML editor by Microsoft-Front Page. If you, or anyone that you know is interested in using this service, please feel free to contact .

For support / service please contact internet@mtn.org or help@mtn.org. Thanks to all users.

It's great to have you out there.
