CYBER-BYTES: An "E-Mail" from Tom Shannon

The only certainty in the technical world is change. With that in mind, wešve experienced a number of changes in the past few months here at MTN Internet. First off, you may have noticed from the name above on the header that Derrik Dyka, Shelley.jpg our previous Internet Director, has taken another job and is no longer here at MTN Internet. Over the two years Derrik has been here he has been a tremendous help in the support, design, and direction of MTN Internet. I personally am indebted to him for his patience in teaching me the intricacies of support and system administration. He will be sorely missed. And in the same breath I would like to take this opportunity to introduce our new support person, Shelley Lagaard. This won't be news to a lot of you because many of our users have already had a chance to talk to Shelly since he started back in June. Shelley (short for Sheldon) comes to us with a wealth of experience in hardware, software, and support and has been a great addition to the MTN Internet 'team'.

Being as this is the 'Millenium' Issue of the Monitor it's only natural that many of you would wonder about MTN Internet's y2k status. I would like to reiterate that with the recent hardware and software upgrades we've made - MTN is now fully y2k compliant. In another important development at MTN Internet we've decided to add DSL support to our connection options. Dsl is a high speed internet connection that rides on top of your existing phone wires allowing you to have both voice and internet connections sharing one phone line. Over 50% of the people who responded to our survey were very interested in adding this feature. Finally, I'd like to congratulate the International Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture : http://www.mtn.org/iasa/, for being selected as a featured site by StudyWeb.com - an educational resource site.
Cheers, Tom - Director of MTN Internet

Twenty two technology employees from three cities in Japan visited MTN recently to find out about public access. Pictured above the visitors meet in cyber space where they kept Executive Director Pam Colby busy answering questions. MTN is pleased to welcome new board member Regenald Flake. Reggie works in commercial sports production and brings to MTN much expertise. Reggie is particularly interested in all areas of production at MTN and will serve on the Equipment Committee. Reggie takes the vacant seat of Audrey Johnson who left the MTN board to run for the Minneapolis School Board.

"ACCEssOLONia" : An MTN / Todd Wardrope Production

While rumors of the ghost of St. Anthony Main abound, and judicious questions asked of the locals might reveal some first-hand accounts, there is certainly a spirit floating around MTN. This spirit is deigned to appear as a spokesmodel in an MTN promotional video, so look for her on our channels in the near future. Her name is...Accessolonia. Produced by MTN staff, using MTN production equipment, this short video offers a glimpse of what sort of creative endeavors our access facility can and will support. Shot in an afternnon, using a few lights, several camera moves and a cadre of dedicated talent, then combined with 24 hours of logging, editing and assembling clips, music, special effects and titles, this project proves that public access is much more than crap. Accessolonia is here, her message is simple: "You are only limited by your imagination."
