As more and more citizens have access to the Internet the MTN WEB page becomes a more viable way of providing programming information to our viewers. Program Manager John Akre has done a terrific job of making sure programming schedules are updated weekly. All shows that are produced at MTN are eligible for a promotional WEB page which includes a video clip. Due to the technical limitations of the Internet at this time these clips are not high quality, however you may still enjoy watching them and certainly discover a lot about individual programs. If you are not taking advantage of this generous offer - please call John Akre at 331-8575 ext. 312.
Recently, I revisited the MTN WEB site to investigate just how much MTN program information I could find. Many producers have full WEB sites packed with information about their program. The Eritrean Broadcast of Minnesota is an example of such a site. Here they have both video as well as audio clips from their program. Besides information about their program on MTN they also offer links to many diverse sources of information concerning Eritrea. Guests registering in on the site include folks from Sweden, Britain, Canada, Germany as well as Eritrea. Another site worth checking out is done by the Prima Donn's . This site is much more focused on the Prima Donn's MTN program and is extremely well done. It includes program clips and scripts, information about their talent and crew and is very easy to navigate. If you are looking for a well done example of how to promote your show - look no further.
By clicking on Video and then Channels at the MTN WEB site you will get a full listing of MTN managed channels - including links to schedules for both the City of Minneapolis channel as well as the Minneapolis Public Schools channel. Another area to investigate in the channels section of the MTN WEB site is links to our satellite programs on our B channels. These links include Deutsche Welle (German language programming), NASA Select and the World Radio Network. The World Radio Network is of particular interest to me with samples of RealAudio links for much of their broadcasts. Of course you can also listen to live broadcasts of the World Radio Network on MTN channel 49B.
If you are interested in designing
your own WEB site consider taking a
WEB design class at MTN. Call Karrie
at 331-8575 ext. 302 and ask for our
current class schedule.

"Promotional spots "
by John Akre
I don't know about you, but I don't see enough spots before my eyes. I don't see enough program promotional spots, that is. You know, those 30 second or one minute jam-packed clip fests that invite you to tune each week at this time and that channel to see this show or that.
If you make a show for MTN, think about making a short promotional piece for it. You can make your promotional spot during a studio shoot and finish it in a matter of minutes, or you can gruel over a hot edit suite for hours to make one ‹ it's up to you.
Once you have made your short promotional spot, drop it off at the Programming office. I will then edit it onto a tape with other Promotional spots which the cablecasters can play when there are a few minutes between programs.
Don't forget to put the name of your show in the spot, the day, time and channel it plays on, and a taste of the show or an explanation of what it's all about. So give it a thought and let's see if we can make the MTN viewing audience see some spots!
