A Day in the Life

Three times a year, MTN breaks from its usual schedule to host a week of "Intermezzo" programming. Intermezzo week is the week between MTN's seasons, and for the Summer intermezzo, which will be the week of August 16th, MTN wants a part of a day in your life. It has been a few years since MTN hosted its last "Day in the Life" series, so it is about time to do it again. To be involved in this special programming, all you need to do is spend a day with a video camera. We're not looking for fancy edits here - editing in the camera is fine. Your challenge will be to fill up two hours of the MTN schedule with two hours of your life.

Spend some time with your friends and family and run the camera. Take a walk through your neighborhood, talking with people, asking questions or soliciting comments (just remember to ask for permission before you push the red Record button). Tape yourself cooking, tape a community festival, show the world what your pet sees, or just turn on the camera and tell it your thoughts. The possibilities are limitless.

Once you've taped your two hours of life we'll play it on one of a number of "Day in the Life" days during summer intermezzo. I would like to see if we can fill a week, the week of August 16 - 22, with "Day in the Life" programming.

What are the possibilities? And how might you accomplish such a thing? Please consider attending a free workshop that will be given by J.C. Bagdadi and yours truly on Tuesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. at MTN. At that workshop you can register for a block of time during "Day in the Life" week. We'll let you in on some "editing in the camera" tricks of the trade, as well as tips for doing interviews and a chance to share your ideas with other MTN producers.

Spring/Summer 1999 Schedule

When you have a chance, take a look at the Spring/Summer 1999 schedule (included, as always, in your copy of the Monitor). You'll find many old favorites, but also many new shows, and some schedule time changes.

New additions to the Channel 33 schedule include "Minnesota Libertarians" on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.; "Ripped Off," a comedy/talk show, later Tuesday night at 10:00 p.m.; "No Cover," a look at music from clubs around the cities, on Fridays at 10 p.m.;"Art Temple," a "spiritually zany" look at the arts and artists, on Saturdays at 9 p.m.; and "B TV," from the producers of "WRNB Live," on Sundays at 6 p.m.

Two of the newer additions on Channel 58 (36B) are "Grace United Methodist Church," on Mondays at 8:30 p.m., and "Greater Faith Christian Center," on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Both feature services from local churches.

ZTV
Some programs that had been away from the MTN schedule for a while have returned, including "Z TV" (Channel 33, 10 p.m. on Mondays), "Slick Mick's Bodyslam Review" (Channel 33, 6 p.m. on Wednesdays), "Root of all Evil" (Channel 33, 11 p.m. on Wednesdays) and "Priesthood Productions" (Channel 58, 10 p.m. on Wednesdays). One long-running show, "Scootertramp TV," has moved to a new night and time. You will now find it on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. on Channel 33.

MTN is now airing more weekly series shows than it has ever aired. You'll find a real diversity of culture, entertainment, the arts, and spirituality on these three channels. MTN is a little like the Minnesota weather ‹ predictably unpredictable!

MTN's Web Site

Don't forget that the most up-to-date MTN schedule information is available on our web site: www.mtn.org. Click on the "Video" side and then click one of the channel numbers(32, 33, 58). You'll find the entire week's schedule, including both series programs and those one-of-a-kind standalone shows. Many of the series programs are clickable, and when you click you will find more information on the show, pictures, and streaming video clips to give you a video-audio taste of what is really out there (and tell your friends all over the world that they can watch MTN shows from the MTN web site!).

If you produce a show on MTN and your show needs a web presence, ask me about putting up a show info web page.
