MTN's Fall 1998 Season brings Exciting Changes
MTN's Fall 1998 season began August 31st, and it signals an exciting time for MTN programming. Not only does it mark the debut of the revamped MTN playback system, but it also marks the premiere of a number of exciting new programs.
For much of the summer, MTN cablecast an abbreviated schedule, and many programs did not air at their usual times. This made for quite a few confused people, and all those folks who were confused will be happy to know that the schedule is back to normal, and back with even more variety.
New Shows
Some of the new programs joining the MTN schedule this fall on Channel 32 are "Enlightened Addiction Insights," - Tuesdays at 5 p.m., "The Grandmaster Kim Show" - Saturdays at 5:30 p.m., "Regional (No Tap) Bowling Tourney" at 9:00 p.m. on Fridays, and "WRNB Live" at 7 p.m. on Saturdays. "Have No Illusion About Enlightenment," a program about meditation, and "Love Song," which features Vietnamese reflective music and romantic songs, premiere respectively at 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. "Islamic Education," which aired on MTN in the past, returns on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m.
Another program that ran on MTN in the past, "Music Da Camera," returns this fall on Thursday nights at 9:00 p.m. on Channel 33. Some other new additions to Channel 33 include "Nepotism, Inc." a program of sketch comedy which airs on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m., "Gallery 7" and "Modern Rock Twin Cities" which air on Friday nights at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. respectively, and "The Grateful Dead Video Hour," Sundays at 8:00 p.m.
Joining the lineup on Channel 58A/36B are two programs from Emmanuel Christian Center. Their weekly worship services will be on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m., and "J.C.'s Place", a program aimed at teens, airs on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. (coincidentally, the "J.C." in the title does not refer to MTN's J.C. Bagdadi, but to another well-known figure from the Mediterranean). Also joining the Channel 58 lineup is "Total Victory" on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
24 hr./day Schedule Information
If you have access to the World Wide Web, you can now find out what's playing on MTN any time, day or night. Go to our home page, www.mtn.org, and click on either "Channels" or "Programs" on the
Video side. When you click on the big
32,
33 or
58 you'll get this week's MTN schedule, with both series programs and stand-alone shows.
Many of the shows on this schedule are clickable. Clicking on a show will get you either a web site set up by the show's producers, or a web page set up by Nate Mains and yours truly. We hope to eventually get a page up with pictures and descriptions for every series program we cablecast (and that's well over one hundred shows, so it might take a while!)
If you do not have web access, you will find complete weekly schedule information (including both series programs and stand-alone specials) and the current MTN community calendar 24 hours a day on Channel 37B.
We are using our new C.G. system
(see cover story on playback) to make new & improved
station identification titles between shows. These titles identify upcoming shows
on MTN's three public access channels. Apropos of that, MTN producers: keep this
in mind when you produce your programs and leave a minute or two at the end of
your show for the station identification information (i.e. if you have a half
hour time slot aim for a 28 or 29 minute program).
The Fall 1998 season runs through December 20th. From December 21st through the 27th, MTN will have its Winter Intermezzo, a week during which we will break from the usual schedule to feature theme nights and holiday programming. The Winter 1999 season will begin on December 28th. Please note that on Thanksgiving and the following day, no new programming will be cablecast. Instead, programming from the previous week will replay through our Extended Play tape system.
Keep on watching public access programming on MTN. It's not just TV worth watching, it's TV worth making!
