MTN Celebrates 25 Years on September 19

MTN has been around for a quarter of a century. Now that is something to celebrate!

And there is a celebration coming up soon. A party on September 19th at Babalu Restaurant at 800 N. Washington Ave in the Warehouse District. The party goes from 6 pm to midnight.

The party is a fundraiser for MTN, too. Admission costs $10. Tickets are available at MTN in advance or buy yours at the door.

Enjoy the authentic Latin-Caribbean cuisine from Babalu, a cash bar with a drink special all night, and free sodas. And there will be entertainment, yes indeed.

The evening will be hosted by Ian Rans of Drinking With Ian and his special guests will include Viva and Jerry, who will be doing 25th Anniversay spoofs. There will also be poetry. Music acts include Urban Cadence, known for their smooth funky jazz, and David Macc and The Falsely Accused, providing Hip Hop, Rap and Funk. D.J. Mix.well, Thursday night D.J. at Picosa in Riverplace, will keep the joint jumping in between.

There will be something for everyone. It will be a chance to dress up, take a date and hang out with your favorite MTN personalities.

Mostly it is going to be fun, and it will be a chance to reflect on MTN?s history and future. "We're also doing this because MTN needs to be more proactive in its sustainance, and this is the advent of that fundraising culture," according to Director of Programming Vera Allen.

The event will also include a silent auction and raffles, with great prizes.

Allen has been working on the event with board members Tom Cassidy and Barb Nei. Fanuel Tsehaye has been working on the graphics and Keith Porter has been putting together MTN archive clips and interviews that will be shown during the event.

So be there on September 19th. Parking is available on the street and in lots and ramps nearby. Metro Transit route 14 runs up Washington Avenue, and 2nd Street N, one block east, has striped bike lanes.
