УFilmФ is defined as a moving picture using any viable technology, e.g., 16/35m film or digital process that can be projected onto a screen or large surface. A key element to Minneapolis MOSAIC has been the commissioning of an original work by a local artists. 1) SPECIFIC PROJECT GOALS Display excellence in filmmaking through the creation of an original film through this community-inspired project. B) Build pride in community heritage and create awareness of the cultural diversity of Minneapolis while exploring the theme of Many Worlds, One Night. C) Contribute to community vitality by providing opportunities for the public to come together under the direction of the artist creating the new work. D. Engage a broad range of people and communities (including K-12 students) by providing opportunities for citizens, neighborhoods and schools to participate in the arts both through input into the creation of the work and participation in the film or film process itself. E. If possible use the MOSAIC original music УCedar/LakeФ. CDs are available. 2) ARTISTS SCOPE OF WORK Create an original work using film as an art form. Audition, select and oversee development for all participants. Be responsible for the production and use of all necessary equipment. The screening venue provided by MOSAIC). Select, pay, and work with designers as needed for the production. Be responsible for space or transportation needs related to planning or production. Meet regularly with the MOSAIC Film Commission Committee to review progress of above tasks. Final product to be delivered on May 26, 2008. 3) ELIGIBILITY Filmmakers who live within the city limits of Minneapolis. Single artists or groups must either have a non-profit 501(c)(3) designation or know a group that can act as fiscal agent. 4) AWARD $10,000 will be awarded for the selected proposal. This award is to cover all artist fees and related costs as stated in the proposed budget. 5) TIMELINE Application Deadline -- January 18, 2008 Award Decision and Notification Ц January 31, 2008 Meeting with MOSAIC for progress evaluation -- March 1, 2008 Work complete Ц May 29, 2008 MOSAIC reviews work Ц May 26, 2008 Screening at Many Worlds, One Night on June 10, 2008. 6) MATERIALS TO BE SUBMITTED FOR PROPOSAL A treatment for the film and proposed process for creating it collaboratively (maximum of two pages). The narrative can include such topics as number of participants, how various communities will be engaged and what other artists are committed, etc. A budget of costs (how the $10,000 award will be spent and any other in-kind or donated materials and services to be involved).
