Board of Directors Meeting

Child called the meeting to order at 5:39 p.m.
I. Opening Business
A. Comments from public, staff and board Akre presented part of the Media Smart Youth Training DVD
B. Approval of the agenda MSP Huber, Jenkins.
C. Approval of Minutes from the April meeting. MSP Huber, Hedden.
II. Reports
A. City of Minneapolis C. John Harrison not present
On May 18 Council Member Ostrow will give his report on the Time Warner/City deliberations in the Ways and Means Committee.
B. Minneapolis Public Schools Kathy Burns not present
Colby reported that MTN has been communicating with schools about loss of NASA channel and the switch to WorldView, which has had some technical problems in its first weeks on the channel line-up.
C. Time Warner Cable Leupold reported
The current number of subscribers is 78,303. Time Warner named its Youth Service Award winners. One winner is from Minneapolis. She is a student at Southwest High School. The awards program was on April 28.
E. Treasurer's Report Huber presented
Huber presented the Statement of Activity. Training income this year is ahead of budget. The Finance Committee has yet to meet to review the audit. Move to adopt the Treasurer?s Report MSP Hedden, Jenkins
F. Executive Director's Report Colby presented
The MTN Annual Meeting will be on June 27, at MTN.
The Don Samuels complaint with the Civil Right Commission will receive a hearing on May 15th. Vose and Colby will attend.
Colby suggested Tom Borrup to serve as facilitator for MTN strategic planning. He will put together a proposal for such a project that the board will then review.
Performance Measures Colby met with Gail Plewacki and Harrison to discuss a performance measurement document they would like from MTN. They suggested language that would attach MTN's contract with this performance measurement. Colby will meet with them again in a month. Huber suggested that the revised document be sent to the board for review.
Colby attended SPNN's Open House.
The Art-A-Watch Festival is on May 20.
Some legislation under consideration in the U.S. House and Senate could change how cable franchising works. The Cope bill is in the House. If it passes, MTN would lose a significant portion of its funding.
Jenkins asked about the Annual Meeting. Colby said she would introduce Board Members to the City Council Members. A staff/board committee will put together visuals power point and video to talk about what MTN does.
